Privacy and Local Data

On this page:Our Local-First Approach

100% Local-First Promise

Every resume you edit, preview, or export on CareerContainer remains stored on your device. We do not have servers to receive, store, or process your personal resume information.

Our Local-First Approach

CareerContainer is designed with privacy at its core. Our resume builder is built around a local-first architecture, which means your resume content is stored and processed primarily on your own device rather than being uploaded to our servers.

You can create, edit, preview, and export resumes without creating an account or providing your personal information to us. This Privacy Policy explains how CareerContainer handles data and how our local-first architecture helps keep your resume information under your control.

No Account Required

You can use CareerContainer's core resume-building features without signing up, creating an account, or providing an email address. We do not maintain user accounts, user profiles, or a central database containing your resume content.

Because CareerContainer does not require an account for the core resume-building experience, your resume information is not stored in a traditional cloud account associated with your identity.

Local Browser Storage

When you create or edit a resume, CareerContainer stores your resume data locally in your web browser, primarily using IndexedDB. This information remains on your computer, tablet, or mobile device and is not sent to CareerContainer's servers for storage or processing.

Your local browser storage is controlled by your browser and operating system. Local resume data may be removed if you:

  • Manually clear your browser history, cache, cookies, or site data.
  • Reset or remove data for the CareerContainer website.
  • Use private or incognito browsing modes that remove local storage when the session ends.
  • Use browser, disk-cleaning, or device-maintenance software that removes website data.
  • Uninstall or reset a browser or device in a way that removes its local website storage.

Because local storage is managed by your device and browser, CareerContainer cannot recover resume data that has been permanently deleted from your device.

Resume Backups

We recommend regularly creating backups of important resumes. CareerContainer allows you to download your resume as a structured .resume backup file. You can store this file on your computer, external storage, or your preferred cloud-storage provider.

You can later import the backup file into CareerContainer to continue editing your resume.

These backup files are under your control. If you choose to store them with a third-party cloud-storage provider, that provider's privacy policy and security practices will apply to those files.

Browser-Based PDF Export

CareerContainer is designed to generate resume PDFs directly in your browser. Your resume content is rendered locally by your browser, and the resulting PDF is generated and downloaded to your device.

CareerContainer does not need to upload your resume content to a remote document-processing service to generate the PDF.

Information We Do Not Collect

CareerContainer is designed so that we do not need to collect or store the personal information contained within your resumes. We do not intentionally collect, read, analyze, or store the content of your resumes, including information such as:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Home address
  • Employment history
  • Education history
  • Skills
  • Professional summary
  • Job titles
  • Other information you enter into your resume

Your resume content remains within the local browser environment used to operate the application.

Analytics and Anonymous Usage Data

We may use limited analytics or technical monitoring to understand how CareerContainer is used and to improve the reliability and performance of the service. Where analytics are enabled, they may collect limited technical or anonymous usage information, such as:

  • Page visits
  • Basic interaction events
  • Browser or device information
  • Approximate usage patterns
  • Performance information
  • Error or diagnostic information

Analytics are intended to help us understand product usage and improve the application. We do not intentionally send the text or personal content of your resumes to analytics providers.

If the analytics configuration or providers used by CareerContainer change, this Privacy Policy may be updated accordingly.

Advertising

CareerContainer may display advertisements to help support the free availability of the service. Advertising providers may collect information about your interaction with advertisements or the website in accordance with their own privacy policies.

CareerContainer does not intentionally provide your resume content to advertising providers. Our application is designed to keep resume content within the local application environment and does not intentionally send the text entered into your resume to advertising services for advertising purposes.

Third-party advertising providers may nevertheless collect standard web information through their own scripts, cookies, or similar technologies. Their handling of such information is governed by their respective privacy policies.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

CareerContainer may use cookies, browser storage, or similar technologies where necessary to operate the website, remember preferences, support functionality, understand general usage, or provide advertising.

Local resume data is stored separately within your browser's local storage environment and is not intentionally transmitted to CareerContainer as part of normal resume editing.

You can control or remove cookies and website data through your browser settings. However, removing browser site data may also remove locally stored CareerContainer resumes.

Your Resume Data and Your Control

You retain ownership and control over the resume content you create using CareerContainer. Because your resume data is stored locally, you can:

  • Create and edit: Modify your resume content at any time.
  • Export: Download your resume as a PDF.
  • Back up: Download your resume as a .resume file.
  • Import: Restore a previously exported .resume backup.
  • Delete: Remove locally stored resumes through the application's local-data controls or your browser's site-data settings.

CareerContainer does not need access to your resume content in order for you to exercise these controls.

Deleting Your Local Data

You can delete your locally stored CareerContainer resumes through the application's Clear Local Data functionality, where available. You can also remove CareerContainer's stored data through your browser's website-data settings.

Once local data has been deleted from your device, CareerContainer generally cannot recover it because we do not maintain a cloud copy of your resume content.

For this reason, we recommend creating a .resume backup before deleting local data or resetting your browser.

Third-Party Services

CareerContainer may rely on third-party services for certain website functions, such as hosting, analytics, advertising, security, performance monitoring, or other infrastructure. These services may process limited technical information necessary to provide their respective services.

Third-party providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies. CareerContainer does not intentionally send the contents of your resumes to third-party services unless explicitly stated otherwise in the application or a future version of this Privacy Policy.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect CareerContainer and the information associated with the service. However, no website, browser, device, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Because your resume content is primarily stored locally on your device, the security of that data also depends on the security of your device, browser, operating system, backups, and any third-party storage services you choose to use.

We recommend keeping your device and browser updated and using appropriate device security measures.

Children's Privacy

CareerContainer is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the core resume builder does not require an account or submission of resume content to our servers, CareerContainer is not designed around collecting children's personal information.

If you believe that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, please contact us so that we can review the situation and take appropriate action.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to CareerContainer, our services, technology, legal requirements, or privacy practices. When we make changes, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this page.

We remain committed to maintaining CareerContainer's local-first and privacy-focused approach. If a significant change affects how we handle personal information or resume content, we will provide appropriate notice where required.

Contact Us

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or CareerContainer's privacy practices, please contact us through the contact method provided on the CareerContainer website. We will make reasonable efforts to review and respond to privacy-related inquiries.
